New Tax Disproportionately Affects Poor

Remember when Barack Obama said this during the campaign...

"I can make a firm pledge," he said in Dover, N.H., on Sept. 12. "Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes."

He repeatedly vowed "you will not see any of your taxes increase one single dime."

Well, Obama just signed a law raising the tobacco tax nearly 62- to $1.01. This will help finance an expansion of children's health care. Here's the ironic thing about this tax...

Smoking rates are much higher among the low income bracket, while smoking declined among the higher income bracket. A Gallup survey showed that 34% of those surveyed who earned between $6,000 to $12,000 smoked, while only 13% of peple earning $90,000 or more were smokers. (Story here)

So essentially, the people who need this healthcare for their children the most are the ones who are paying for it via taxes. The government says they want people to quit smoking, but if they do quit smoking there will be no money to fund this healthcare program! This is typcial left-wing liberal lunacy at its worst.

So those who don't smoke think your safe? Just wait until the they start taxing beer and wine, junk food, or Al Gore's favorite- "carbon tax".

Don't forget April 15th isn't just tax day- its "Tea Party Day"- join in on the movement and find a local Tea Party happening in your area. Let your voice be heard!
