China Economy: Good for Government, Bad for Worker

There has been a trend lately, particularly since the Olympics, of liberals propping up China on a pedestal, saying that the U.S. should strive to be more like them.

After a grandiose fireworks display and camera shots of the "modern China" financial district with all its new infrastructure in shining glory, we Americans have been told the grass is greener on the other side. The Olympics was a very well produced production, giving communist China a much rosier hue then what the smog filled country is really hiding.

While China is spending billions of dollars on "their ports, their train systems" and their "vastly superior" airports, as Obama would say, their workforce works for slave labor wages. Let's look at the difference in wages between communist China's workers and the U.S. worker:

  • In 2006 the average income in China was $2,025- not a month, a year!! (source)

  • In 2004 the median household income in the U.S. was $44,334 (source)

Soon to be President, Barack Obama, seems to want us to be more like China. It is obvious that China values its building and high tech trains, more then the living condition of their people.

Will our auto industry workers in Detroit be prepared to work for peanuts...so that Detroit can attain a more modern infrastructure? Will all the government workers across the U.S. be willing to work for $170 a month...so that President Obama can proudly dance his new airports in front of the other world leaders?

There is a reason people risk their lives trying to immigrate into the U.S. and not countries like China (in fact many risk their lives trying to escape places like China)- FREEDOM. We, as Americans, are free to make our own lives, successfully or not, we have options that humans all over the planet are willing to die for, yet we, in America, have them at the tip of our fingers.

Inferring that America should be more like China is not only a silly naive thought to ponder, it is dangerous. And to think the majority of Americans voted for Barack Obama because they thought he had their financial interest in mind...gullible, naive, or ignorant...or all of the above?
